Benefit Fundraiser for Project ClayPlay

The first public benefit for Project ClayPlay was a rousing success. We would like to thank the Austin Playhouse for allowing us to host our benefit at their venue. Project ClayPlay bought out the first night of the wonderful show, Picasso at the Lapin Agile, performed by the Austin Playhouse Players. This was a wonderful night at the theater with our many community supporters, co-workers, family and friends.

The event included a delicious gourmet buffet of stuffed mushrooms, antipasto, open faced roast beef sandwiches, and an array of desserts and beverages. A silent auction was also held with over 50 donated items. The auction provided some friendly competition between the benefit attendees and raised over $5000!

The first of the Mud Daubers was on site for tours after a major retro-fit effort from a vintage Airstream motor-home to a mobile clay studio.

Prior to the show - Kit Adams (Executive Director) and Dwane Porter (Board Chair) shared the vision of Project ClayPlay and its initial creation and current metamorphosis from concept to reality.

April 13, 2010, Project ClayPlay will begin a 6 day pilot program at an elementary school here in Austin. Driven by creativity and community-Project ClayPlay will hit the road and begin transforming lives. Our mission: fostering creativity and community through clay. Our primary focus: To break down barriers faced by economically challenged kids--including transportation, money, facilities, and equipment--so they can learn to be creative, with clay and with their own lives, in their own neighborhoods.

Project ClayPlay would like to thank everyone for their participation and we look forward to seeing you at future events.

Synopsis:"Picasso at the Lapin Agile" by Steve Martin is a delightful piece of theatrical slight of hand wherein he creates the meeting of the century that never happened between the most influential scientist and the most influential artist and, after a wonderful setup, does a quantum leap into the absurd. Picasso at the Lapin Agile is a wonderful play, with a great deal of tongue-in-cheek humor, dry wit, and intelligent riddles. In this play, Martin has set out a very amusing treatise on some very important aspects of the 20th century, especially regarding art and science.
