Our Mission

About Us

Fostering creativity and community through clay.

Project ClayPlay is comprised of local business persons and artists who share the belief that art activities enrich people's lives - stimulating their imaginations, enhancing fine motor skills, improving concentration, building self-esteem and unleashing a general feeling of accomplishment that can be built upon in other aspects of their lives.

Project Clayplay was formed in 2008 with the mission of fostering community and creativity through clay.

ClayWays Pottery Studio & Gallery has been a successful teaching studio for thirteen years. Two annual community activities held at ClayWays inspired the formation of Project ClayPlay:

For ten years, Clayways sponsored the Austin Empty Bowl Project to benefit the Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB). Potters, pottery students and local celebrities donate bowls which participants can take home with them. Some of the best restaurants in Austin donate soup. The Capital Area Food Bank estimates that the cash raised at this event over the past ten years has provided 1,500,000 meals for hungry Texans. The core reason that this project has been so successful is the cooperation of the community of people who make up and support ClayWays and who wish to have wider community outreach.

The second activity is the ClayWays Summer Clay Camp for children ages six to seventeen. The Clay Camps offer children the opportunity to learn about various art techniques, while having creative fun within a community of other children and art educators. Each summer, Clay Camps serve more than 250 children. Many return year after year. ClayWays has provided scholarships for children from low-income families so they could attend Summer Clay Camp.
